- Floss! You might have something lodged in between your teeth causing the ache.

Dr. Les Latner, owner of Westside Dental Associates, is proud to announce he will be sponsoring the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile Virtual Race for Smiles, between October 14-16, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “The Virtual Race for Smiles is one of the AACDCF’s fundraisers,” said Dr. Latner, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the AACDCF, which fixes the broken smiles of victims of domestic violence. “This foundation needs our support.”

The mission of the AACD Charitable Foundation is to assist in rebuilding the smiles and lives of adults who’ve suffered dental injuries from domestic and sexual violence, through compassionate cosmetic dental services and support programs. Patients are referred to the foundation by social service agencies that are aware of the program.

To participate in the Give Back a Smile Virtual Race for Smiles, register yourself or a team. Registration proceeds support survivors of domestic or sexual violence through the Give Back a Smile program. Between October 14-16, participants can run, bike, do yoga, etc.

Below are the most common gems that have been told to us: “I never have food stuck in my teeth.” You’re joking, right? Unless your toothbrush comes equipped with a special bristle that can reach between your teeth, flossing needs to become a part of your morning/evening routine immediately. “I don’t know the proper way to floss.” This is a legitimate excuse. There are a lot of patients who don’t know that there is a right and wrong way to brush and floss. If you need help, our staff is glad to demonstrate the proper techniques. “I don’t have time to floss.” We all only have so much time to dedicate to our teeth, but it should never be the deciding factor. If you have time to play on your phone, you have time to spend flossing and brushing. Nice try.
