All-Porcelain Crowns and Bridges in Los Angeles
Crowns
(caps) and bridges were always made with porcelain fused to metal that
resulted in very opaque, unnaturally white teeth with black margins over
a period of years. We now have metal-free crowns and bridges that result
in more natural smiles as this allows the natural tooth color to show
through. These crowns and bridges are bonded to the tooth.
A crown fits over and replaces the entirety of a decayed tooth above the gum line. The crown forms a seal with the gum line preventing damaging bacteria from accessing the tooth. Repairing a severly decayed tooth may require two or more visits.
The procedure to place a crown over a damaged tooth involves several steps. First, Dr. Latner will numb area around the tooth with a jelly like substance, followed by the injection of an anesthetic so that the procedure will be as pain-free as possible. Next, Dr. Latner will drill out the decayed area of the tooth. Then, an impression of the drilled tooth will be taken so that a technician can make a crown that perfectly matches the old tooth. Finally, the tooth will be covered with a temporary crown until the permanent crown is ready.
Once your permanent crown is ready (on a later visit), Dr. Latner will apply an anesthetic as before, remove the temporary crown and cement the permanent crown into place.
